IN BROOKFIELD. WELL, THE NEW ART EXHIBIT AT THE HAGGERTY MUSEUM OF ART AIMS TO TEACH PEOPLE ABOUT SOMETHING DIFFERENT THE DANGERS OF AIR POLLUTION. YEAH. METEOROLOGIST DAJI ASWAD HAS THIS FORECAST FOR OUR FUTURE REPORT FROM MARQUETTE UNIVERSITY’S CAMPUS. GLOBALLY. ALMOST HALF OF THE SOOT IN THE AIR COMES FROM HOUSEHOLD USES LIKE COOKING ENERGY. USE IT FROM SMOKESTACKS TO CAR EXHAUST AND EVEN HOUSEHOLD CANDLES. SOOT IS BEING RELEASED INTO THE AIR EVERY DAY. THE THING THAT MAKES SMOKE BLACK IS THIS TINY LITTLE PARTICLES. THOSE ARE COAL. SO THERE’S A PRIMARY MADE OF PRIMARILY MADE OF UNBURNED CARBONS THAT DIDN’T BURN COMPLETELY. DR. CEMENT ROY TEACHES ENGINEERING AT MARQUETTE. HE IS STEPPING OUT OF THE CLASSROOM AND INTO THE HAGGERTY MUSEUM OF ART TO SHOWCASE THE IMPACTS OF THE ART. IS MORE THAN A FRAME, BUT A TOOL. TEACHING PEOPLE ABOUT THE AIR THEY BREATHE. ROY SAYS SOOT IS TENTHS THOUSAND TIMES SMALLER THAN A HAIR STRAND, MAKING IT INVISIBLE TO THE NAKED EYE. ART SEEMS LIKE A MEDIUM THAT IS A MIDDLE GROUND WITH EVERYTHING IT IT GIVES YOU A LOT OF NEW DIRECTIONS, NEW IDEAS, NEW THINGS TO THINK ABOUT. STUDENT MADE SOOT MODELS ARE PART OF THE EXHIBIT CALLED ENTANGLED AIR. WHY IS THIS VERY, VERY TINY THING SO IMPACTFUL ON HUMANS? BECAUSE THIS IS VERY TINY. IT CAN ACTUALLY PENETRATE THROUGH OUR BLOOD VESSELS. IT CAN PENETRATE THROUGH OUR LUNGS AND GET INTO CELLS AND WREAK HAVOC. SO IT’S ACTUALLY ONE OF THE LEADING CAUSE OF MORTALITY AROUND THE WORLD. SOOT MAY ALSO AFFECT CLIMATE. SOOT IS ACTUALLY THE SECOND MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR IN CLIMATE CHANGE. THE SECOND TO ONLY CARBON DIOXIDE. IT AFFECTS THE CLIMATE CHANGE PARTLY BECAUSE IT’S BLACK AND BLACK. PINK. THESE REALLY ABSORB HEAT AND THERE’S THE PROFESSOR WITH A NEW WAY OF REACHING MORE THAN JUST HIS STUDENTS I
