WINDING DOWN THE DIVISION ONE WIAA FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS, THE MARQUETTE HILLTOPPERS FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2009, THE MARQUETTE UNIVERSITY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM GETS THE DIVISION ONE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP MARQUETTE BEATING FRANKLIN HIGH SCHOOL 27 TO 10 IN MADISON TONIGHT. 12 NEWS. ERIKA FINK WAS THE ONLY REPORTER THERE AS THE PLAYERS GOT OFF THE BUS TONIGHT, ERIKA THEY ARRIVED WITHIN THE HOUR AND PATRICK JUST MINUTES AGO, THE PLAYERS AND COACHES GOT OFF THE BUS AND CAME HOME AFTER BEING AT CAMP RANDALL STADIUM IN MADISON. AND THEY’RE VERY EXCITED TO BRING HOME SOME NEW HARDWARE. HOW WAS THE ENTIRE TEAM FEELING TONIGHT? ASK THEM HOW ARE WE FEELING? IT WAS AWESOME. YOU KNOW, WE WE BUILT A CULTURE LAST YEAR AND WE REALLY CAME TOGETHER THIS YEAR. AND WE KNEW WE HAD A SHOT IN THE BEGINNING AND, YOU KNOW, YEAH, WE, WE CAME, WE KNEW WE COULD DO IT AND WE, YOU KNOW, WENT ON A RUN. WE DID IT SIDELINES AND THERE GOES THE PLAYERS AND COACHES ECSTATIC TO BRING THE TROPHY BACK HOME TO MILWAUKEE TONIGHT. IT’S THE TEAM’S FIRST TITLE SINCE 2009. MANY OF THE PLAYERS PROUD OF THE BROTHERHOOD THIS TEAM HAS CREATED. SO ARE TWO GUYS WHO WATCH THE GAME DURING A WATCH PARTY TONIGHT AT LEFF’S LUCKY TOWN. THEY PLAYED TOGETHER ON THE 1982 MARQUETTE HIGH SCHOOL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM TO BE ABLE TO SEE THIS HAPPEN AGAIN AND SEE SOME OF THE OF OUR TEAMMATES, CHILDREN’S WIN IS REALLY SPECIAL. THAT’S TRUE. NOTHING BEATS IT AND ERIKA THE PARTY IS JUST GETTING STARTED. THIS CELEBRATION WILL CONTINUE NEXT WEEK. THAT’S RIGHT. THE HIGH SCHOOL HAS A PEP RALLY PLANNED FOR MONDAY MORNING. For the first time since 2009, Marquette University High School football clinched the Divison I state title.Marquette beat Franklin High School 27-10 Friday night at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison. The team was buzzing as they got off the bus at the high school around 9:20 p.m., excited to show off their new hardware."It was awesome," said senior Murphy Monreal. "We built a culture last year, we really came together this year. We knew we had a shot in the beginning and, you know. We knew we could do it and we went around and we did it."Many of the players are proud of the brotherhood their team has created; so is Paul Megal, a 1982 Marquette football state champ, who watched his team win the gold at Leff's Lucky Town."To be able to see this happen again and to see some of our teammates' children win this is really special," Megal said.The Hilltoppers' celebration continues Monday morning as the school will hold a pep rally for how well the football, volleyball, soccer and cross country teams did this fall.
