TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5TH. RIGHT NOW, A CRACKDOWN ON ILLEGAL DUMPING. A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT BY MILWAUKEE POLICE COMES A WEEK AFTER A 12 NEWS INVESTIGATION. IRON. 12 NEWS. KENDALL KEYS REPORTS ON THE REWARD. WORKERS ARE CLEARING OUT THIS ABANDONED HOUSE NEAR SECOND AND HADLEY. LITERALLY. I’M A CLEAN OUT GUY. WE WATCH THEM LOAD UP A TRUCK WITH OLD FURNITURE, TRASH AND MATTRESSES AS IT GOES TO THE CITY DUMP. JAMES WOULDN’T SHARE HIS LAST NAME, BUT HE DID LET 12 NEWS FOLLOW HIM TO THE CITY DUMP ON INDUSTRIAL ROAD. HE GOT RID OF THE JUNK THE LEGAL WAY. THAT’S WHERE IT’S SUPPOSED TO GO. BUT AS WE KNOW, THERE’S A PROBLEM IN OUR HOOD AND IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD WITH PEOPLE’S DUMPING STUFF. 12 NEWS HAS HIGHLIGHTS. MANY CASES OF ILLEGAL DUMPING IN MILWAUKEE OVER THE LAST YEAR. PEOPLE OFTEN DUMPING THEIR UNWANTED MATTRESSES, GARBAGE, EVEN TOILETS ILLEGALLY, LIKE THIS PILE NEAR FOURTH AND CLARK. THEY GOT ANOTHER MATTRESS RIGHT THERE AND THEY GO AND PILE RIGHT THERE OF BABY STUFF, YOU KNOW, SO IT DON’T LOOK GOOD. NOW, MILWAUKEE POLICE ARE TAKING ACTION. ONE OF THE MOST COMMON COMPLAINTS WE HAVE FROM CITIZENS IN THE CITY OF MILWAUKEE IS THE ILLEGAL DUMPING. SERGEANT EFRAIN CORNEJO SAYS THEY NEED THE PUBLIC TO HELP THEM STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING. WE REALLY NEED THE COMMUNITY TO GIVE US AS MUCH INFORMATION AND SO WE CAN IDENTIFY THE PERPETRATOR AND THAT MIGHT BE A GOOD VEHICLE DESCRIPTION, A DESCRIPTION OF THE PERSON THAT WAS ENGAGED IN THE ILLEGAL DUMPING. YOU KNOW, A PLATE IS ALWAYS VERY HELPFUL. IF POLICE ISSUE A CITATION, THE TIPSTER COULD GET A $1,000 REWARD. THE PEOPLE ENGAGED IN THIS BEHAVIOR ALSO NEED TO BE AWARE OF THE CONSEQUENCES. A LITTERING CITATION WILL COST YOU AROUND 500 BUCKS. AN ILLEGAL DUMPING CITATION, NEARLY $2,000 IN KENDALL KEYS REPORTING TONIGHT, THERE IS A COST FOR DROPPING LARGE ITEMS AT THE DUMP. Milwaukee police issued a public service announcement on Thursday about illegal dumping. "One of the most common complaints we have from citizens in the city of Milwaukee is illegal dumping," the announcement said.It comes a week after a WISN 12 News investigation on an illegal dump site near 2nd Street and Vienna Avenue. Sgt. Efrain Cornejo said police need the public to help stop it from happening. "We really need the community to give us as much information so we can identify the perpetrator. And that might be a good vehicle description, description of the person that was engaged in the illegal dumping. You know, a plate is always very helpful," Cornejo said. If police issue a citation, the tipster could get a $1,000 reward from the city. "The people engaged in this behavior also need to be aware of the consequences," Cornejo said. A littering citation will cost about $500. An illegal dumping citation is nearly $2,000. Police said so far this year, they have issued four citations for illegal dumping, and 25 citations for littering.The city dump charges varying fees to drop items off at their drop-off center. If it fits in your car, it's free. A pick-up truck could cost around $20. Milwaukee police said to call their non-emergency line at 414-933-4444 to report illegal dumping. You can also report illegal dumping to the city at 286-CITY.
