Milwaukee police issued a public service announcement on Thursday about illegal dumping.
"One of the most common complaints we have from citizens in the city of Milwaukee is illegal dumping," the announcement said.
It comes a week after a WISN 12 News investigation on an illegal dump site near 2nd Street and Vienna Avenue.
Sgt. Efrain Cornejo said police need the public to help stop it from happening.
"We really need the community to give us as much information so we can identify the perpetrator. And that might be a good vehicle description, description of the person that was engaged in the illegal dumping. You know, a plate is always very helpful," Cornejo said.
If police issue a citation, the tipster could get a $1,000 reward from the city.
"The people engaged in this behavior also need to be aware of the consequences," Cornejo said.
A littering citation will cost about $500. An illegal dumping citation is nearly $2,000.
Police said so far this year, they have issued four citations for illegal dumping, and 25 citations for littering.
The city dump charges varying fees to drop items off at their drop-off center. If it fits in your car, it's free. A pick-up truck could cost around $20.
Milwaukee police said to call their non-emergency line at 414-933-4444 to report illegal dumping. You can also report illegal dumping to the city at 286-CITY.
