2-year-old boy meets the firefighters who saved his life
TODAY IS ABOUT CELEBRATING KAI HERE. TWO YEAR OLD KAI. HE AND 5G. YEAH, WE’RE AT THE FIRE STATION ENJOYING A DAY FILLED WITH FIRE TRUCKS. IT’S ALWAYS FULL OF ENERGY. YES. ALL DAY LONG. AND MEETING THE MEN WHO HELPED SAVE HIS LIFE. WE COULDN’T BE HAPPIER SEEING HIM WALK IN THE FIREHOUSE. HE’S GONE THROUGH A LOT ALREADY, BUT WE’RE HAPPY THAT HE’S HE’S HERE. IN APRIL, KAI HIT HIS HEAD AND LOST CONSCIOUSNESS AT HIS GRANDPARENTS HOUSE WHILE PLAYING. SHE WAS JUST SAYING, KAI’S NOT BREATHING. HE TURNED BLUE. WE CALLED 911. AND YOUR BROTHER’S DOING CPR AND CHEST COMPRESSIONS ON HIM. WE SHOWED UP AND KAI WAS ON THE FLOOR AND THE PARAMEDICS OVER HERE SPRUNG INTO ACTION AFTER WEEKS IN THE HOSPITAL AND MONTHS OF RECOVERY, KAI IS BACK TO HIS ENERGETIC SELF. YOU KNOW, REALLY HAPPY THAT HE’S HERE AND HE’S, YOU KNOW, HEALTHY TWO YEAR OLD. WE HEARD THAT IT WAS A GOOD OUTCOME AFTER AFTER THE EVENT. BUT IT’S OBVIOUSLY SO GREAT TO SEE HIM IN PERSON. AND AND TALK TO HIS FAMILY. AND TODAY HE GOT TO MEET THE THREE MEN WHO HELPED SAVE HIS LIFE. ALL THE FIRST RESPONDERS HERE, THE FIREFIGHTERS AND PARAMEDICS GAVE HIM THAT CHANCE FOR HIM TO BE ABLE TO FIGHT. IT WAS A STRESSFUL MOMENT FOR US. SO FOR THEM, I CAN’T EVEN IMAGINE. I HAVE THREE KIDS OF MY OWN. THEY’RE ALL GROWN NOW, BUT I MEAN, IT’S IT’S ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT’S WHY WE TRAIN SO MUCH FOR THESE TYPES OF EVENTS TO BE ABLE TO BE HERE TODAY AND TO SEE THE TEAM THAT CAME AND HELPED HIM. I’M JUST REALLY GRATEFUL FOR A THANKFUL FAMILY. YOU SAY THANK YOU. GLAD TO BE TOGETHER THIS HOLIDAY SEASON. THIS IS THE TYPE OF OUTCOME THAT WE WE GO FOR ON ON EVERY CALL. THANK YOU. KAI. TY STEELE KCRA THREE NEWS. WOW. YEAH. REALLY KIND OF A MIRACLE BECAUSE DOCTORS SAID THAT KAI HAD MULTIPLE BRAIN BLEEDS. THEY DID NOT THINK HE’D BE ABLE TO RECOVER, BUT AFTER A PRETTY LONG REHAB, HE WAS ABLE TO GO HOME WITH NO LASTING MEDICAL ISSUES. ONE OF THOSE LITTLE BABY BRAINS THAT’S STILL DEVELOPING AND I MEAN CAPABLE OF SO MUCH HEALING. THEY’RE PLASTIC. THEY CAN SURVIVE AND CHANGE. AND HE’S GOOD BECAU

A special reunion happened Monday at a California fire station.Two-year-old Kai Ton had the chance to meet the three firefighters who helped save his life. In April, Kai hit his head and lost consciousness at his grandparents’ house while playing. “She said 'Kai’s not breathing,'” said Ni Ton, Kai’s mother, as she recalled the phone call she first got after the accident. “'We called 911. Your brother is doing CPR chest compressions on him.' We showed up; Kai was on the floor and the paramedics over here sprang into action.” Doctors said Kai had multiple brain bleeds, and they didn’t think he would make a full recovery. But after weeks in the hospital and months of recovery, Kai is back to his energetic self and getting to meet the three first responders who got him to the hospital so quickly.“We heard that it was a good outcome after the event,” said Sacramento firefighter Joe Aldrich, as he held Kai in his arms. “But it is good to see him in person, talking to his family.”
