Milwaukee Bucks player Khris Middleton spent Monday morning passing out hundreds of coats to Milwaukee Public School students as a part of his "12 Days of Khrismas" initiative.
Handing out coats has become a tradition for the Bucks' Forward. This is the fifth year Middleton has done it, and the first time Benjamin Franklin School at 23rd and Nash streets has been selected to receive the coats.
A $20,000 United Healthcare grant donated to the Dreambuilders Foundation paid for all of the coats.
"We have an amazing event that's been sponsored by Khris Middleton, in partnership with the Bucks and United Healthcare, where they are donating 354 coats to our entire building," said Angela Fleming, the principal of Benjamin Franklin School.
Kids were able to walk up to the table, and pick out whatever color and style of coat they wanted out of a pile of over 350 jackets.
In addition to coats, some kids even scored autographs from Middleton as well.
"I was like, oh, my gosh, he really signed my hat!" said fifth-grader Jaden Andino-Williams. "It was really good. It was really cool."
Middleton says he feels a push to always give back to Milwaukee.
"It's extremely important to give back to the communities that have supported me for so long," said Middleton. "The communities that I live in, my family lives in, and that my kids were born in. So Milwaukee is definitely my second or third home. I want to make sure I support the community in every way that I can."
