'We rule': West Allis mayor says vacant Burger King will be torn down

West Allis previously sued the fast food giant over dilapidated building on Greenfield Avenue.

West Allis Mayor Dan Devine is claiming victory in a months-long fight against the home of the Whopper. In a Friday night post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Devine said Burger King plans to raze the former restaurant on 106th and Greenfield Avenue and "return that area to a grass lot."Devine said demolition will start no later than December 27. He ended his post by writing, "We rule!" — a nod to the fast food giant's slogan, "You rule." The mayor referenced that same slogan in a post on X back in October when he called out Burger King over the dilapidated property, writing, "Hey Burger King, since I rule could you please help me and do something with this blighted property?" Burger King's X account quickly responded, "This definitely does not rule. Please message us so we can figure out what is happening."The Greenfield Avenue restaurant closed more than a decade ago. Since then, the building has sat vacant and unused. West Allis sued Burger King over the issue in October. West Allis City Attorney Kail Decker previously told 12 News, “This property is the sore thumb in the area. Over the last six years, we've responded over 100 times for complaints for things like garbage, broken glass, things like that.”
