James Stratton

Reporter

James Stratton is a nationally recognized investigative reporter and anchor with a history of storytelling that leads to change. While reporting in Des Moines, James changed state law, exposed an EMS system where people were dialing 911 and dying without receiving an ambulance and uncovered the largest puppy mill bust in state history.

Before coming to WISN 12, James had stints reporting and anchoring at KCCI in Des Moines, Iowa, WREX in Rockford, Illinois and KWQC in Davenport, Iowa. While western Illinois is where James is from, anywhere in the Midwest always feels like home.

James’s work has been awarded multiple regional Emmy awards and Edward R. Murrow awards for writing, reporting and investigating. While in Des Moines, James’s work reporting and uncovering issues with the state’s emergency medical services received a national Salute to Service to America Award from the National Association of Broadcasters. Another story asked why the state didn’t have photos for every missing person and why Iowa couldn’t use driver’s license photos. Three weeks after the story aired, a bill allowing the state to use driver’s license photos was introduced. It passed unanimously in the Iowa House and Senate and was signed by the governor.

When not turning stories, James enjoys running, riding his bike, water and snow skiing, cooking and spending time with family.

As a great boss once said, “You’re only as good as your next story,” here’s to telling so many more in Milwaukee!
